Padmount transformers

Due to safety or environmental reasons it may not be desirable to use overhead lines and pole mount transformers. Severe weather conditions may pose a high risk to the overhead lines or for sites close to schools safety considerations may make the use of overhead lines unsafe. In these situations the ABB small distribution padmount range offers the perfect solution. The range includes single phase (50kVA to 100kVA) and three phase (50kVA to 315kVA) units. Units can be fitted with an integrated Petersen coil that is used to compensate for the capacitive earth fault current in underground cables. Where safety or protection of sensitive equipments is the primary concern the unit can be equipped with ABB's TPC protection system.

Where customers prefer to have a transformer solution external to the wind turbine, the ABB medium and large distribution padmount range offers the perfect answer. The padmount consists of a transformer located inside a robust hot dip galvanised enclosure which also contains the LV and MV equipment. The range extends from 200kVA to 4000kVA. High voltages upto 38kV and low voltage up to 690V. The smaller units tend be used as auxiliary supplies while the large units operate as the main turbine step up transformers.
